Important: The journal entries are backwards from during the war to beginning of the war.

Self-Evaluation and Reflection: 1. How did I use my class time? Did I waste my time or use my time effectively? I didn't think I wasted my time. It was difficult to find pictures and information on my topic because I was absent and didn't uinderstand the task fully. I asked my peers what we were doing, but none of them could explain it well. I tried my best to use class time efficiently.

2. How did my team work together? Did we share information regarding web sites and other information? I thought we worked okay. Someone shared one web site of information with me, and Lyndsay Burns and Aimee Allen came up with the names of my Southern Belle's friends. Everyone else seemed to work together fine, as well.

3. If I were to do this same project again, what would I do differently? Work on it earlier. Get more facts, and make my journal entries longer than they are. I would try and make my character more interesting, giving her more interests and hobbies. I would also get a better picture in the left-side module (The picture that is on the left side of this page, in the module).

This project was by Khelsea Borror, Integrated Language Arts, Period 3.

February Thirteenth, 1862.

Dear Journal,

Say hello to Mrs. Emma Kate Henry. Alexander and I wed last night. It was very beautiful, with white and pink everywhere. I am moving into Alexander's house tomorrow morning. How lovely his house is. It's very spacious, and I am sure I will love it there.

The war is still in progress, however. Word on the street is that it will last for 3 more years. I can't imagine a longer war than the American Civil War.

November Twentieth, 1861.

Dear Journal,

Good News! Father and Robert are back! They arrived late last night. It was great seeing them again, after them being gone for so long. Father looks older, and more tired. And Robert has definitely grown. He looks very adult-like now. Mother seems to have gotten well because of Father and Robert's return. It's nice seeing her happy again. We had a very big celebration and feast last night. It was very joyful. I certaintly loved it.

Alexander and I are engaged! He proposed to me last night, of all nights. I couldn't be more happier.

July second, 1861.

Dear Journal,

Wow, I am so terribly sorry that it's been this long since I've wrote. Things have certaintly changed. Mother is always in need of care, for she has fallen ill due to father's long absence, and the amount of effort that is pressured on her to keep up with the plantation. Betty and I are doing fine, we are trying to relieve some of mother's health problems by doing as much as we can on the plantation, doing double of what needs to be done. That has become very tiring, but after doing it for months, it isn't very hard to do. I did try that aid society idea I had, and I had 30 responses from girls at my school. All of them have fathers, brothers, or mothers away at war. We meet almost every week, but we have had some trouble thinking of ways to help. Half of the Society donates a dollar each to causes to help soldiers and those participating in the war, every day. How they come up with this money, I am not sure, but I know most of these girls are very well off with their riches, so I'm sure it isn't too hard. We've also tried a petiton, however, that triggered a somewhat angry response from those asked to sign it. Many people don't want to get in the middle of something as big as this. I have heard rumors that the war may be over soon. But of course, they are just rumors, nothing to be hopeful for, since they most likely aren't true.

I do hope this war ends very soon.

April Fifteenth, 1861.

Dear Journal,

It's been four long and hard days of chores and work on the plantation. Now that Father and Robert are gone, it seems like the amount of things needed to be done has doubled. Mother is looking awfully stressed and tired about dealing with plantation. She hardly does anything within her interests anymore. All she worries about is the plantation and Betty and I. It certaintly isn't healthy. Although, mother did go to a meeting with the Aid Society last night. Since mother is constantly worried about father and Robert being to war by themselves, she tries to do the most and best she can to contribute her energy to the war. Mother is trying to convince me of joining an aid society, although, I think I'll start my own. Many girls at my private school aren't helping the war the most they could, and I know a lot of them have male family members and even female family members (as nurses), in the war. I'm sure most of them would be willing to help.
